Developing new job sources which will produce business and employment opportunities
As it stands, Councilwoman Myers Ervin agrees our city has the citizens in the city of Florence who want to work. Yet, there are a limited amount of jobs. Ideally, she wants to have all of our citizens working with not just a job, but potentially a career that will allow them to make a living wage to have the quality of life that I know we all strive to have. Leveraging and activating strong relationships to develop private-public partnerships to retool the workforce, expand opportunities, and facilitate industry expansion is most important, especially due to limited land space and the economic recovery from COVID-19 the city of Florence will undertake.
What does this look like immediately?
County has the land; the city has the water. Let’s work together to provide attractive offerings in terms of incentives that are long-lasting and favorable to all of Florence. For Councilwoman Myers Ervin this would start with:
- Marketing Package - Working with the Greater Florence Chamber, Economic Develop, and State Chamber of Commerce to put together a marketing package that would allow us to showcase what Florence has to offer. We do medical well, and Councilwoman Myers Ervin believes we can be the medical capital of South Carolina, much like Chapel Hill and Durham, North Carolina. With Francis Marion University soon to offer a medical school and doing well with their professional medical programs, Florence-Darlington Technical College’s medical and technology education offerings, McLeod and MUSC being premiere hospitals, we can attract new leading, businesses to Florence.
- Suppliers/Manufacturers - If Florence is the medical hub of South Carolina, I would like to bring in more medical suppliers and manufacturers of PPE that is a must, as well as being environmentally friendly and here for the long haul. This will be done through the incentives packages that will be in favor of Florence and longevity.
